Piaget’s Possession collection immortalises heady summer vibes

THE START OF THE YEAR WAS DREARY IN MANY PLACES, but you wouldn’t have noticed it looking at the new items in Piaget’s Possession line. The collection, with its iconic spinning rings, has always embodied the brand’s lighter, playful side. One of the videos on Piaget’s website, for instance, intersperses shots of spinning Possession rings with scenes of moving carousels, Ferris wheels, vinyl records, and a mother and daughter dancing in a circle. “Turn and the world is yours,” it invites viewers. And although the promise is merely symbolic, one cannot help but smile and seek leisure outdoors.

The latest designs in the collection stay true to the spirit of Possession. Pink gold bangles are set with diamonds and accentuated with coloured-stone cabochons. One can choose green malachite, red carnelian, bright turquoise, intense black onyx, or deep blue lapis lazuli — and, of course, mix and match the bangles on a whim. When in the mood for more sparkle, one can opt for a pink gold bangle that eschews the coloured stones and comes instead with more than a thousand diamonds.

Even more interestingly, the Possession rings are reinterpreted as necklace pendants. One design comes with a gold ring wrapped around a coloured ornamental stone. Even as a pendant, the ring comes with the collection’s trademark spinning mechanism. Another version of the pendant features a perfect sphere with an upper half of diamond-studded pink gold and a lower half made from an ornamental coloured stone. The effect is of a globe split into snowy and lively halves, with a ring as the equator. The pendant hangs on a palm chain that can be worn either as a sautoir in two different lengths or as a customised version that wraps around the neck.

It’s no coincidence that the jewellery designs evoke sunny days. In fact, the latest Possession campaign, shot by the renowned photography duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, was set in Ibiza. As a jewellery brand, Piaget has always emphasised colour in its creations, and the Possession collection has been recognised as a stylish wardrobe staple since its debut in 1990. The good news is one doesn’t need to wait for summer to get her hands on the newest Possession watches, rings, bracelets, and pendants. And with such energising pieces, she doesn’t need sunny days to look and feel radiant either.
