Gemstones and fanciful designs are paired with precision mechanism.
If the raison d’etre of every timepiece is merely to tell the time, we will obligingly strap dull and functional mini machines on our wrists. But, alas, it isn’t. Timepieces are an expression of hopeful anticipation, making the passage of time a period of excitement and fulfilment.
Time may be an abstract concept, but we have devised a concrete way to measure its passing.

FLEETING TIME, ENDURING BEAUTY
Parmigiani Fleurier Tempus Fugit
Drawing from its expertise in antique clock restoration, Parmigiani has created an exquisite time-telling objet d’art. The primary motif of the piece is a dragon covered in 150 green jade scales and accents in various colours. It has ruby eyes, solid white gold claws and whiskers, and a carnelian tongue. It is depicted chasing a ball of fire – or pearl of wisdom according to the ancient lore – that is made of 18K yellow gold encrusted with diamonds, yellow sapphires and rubies, and engulfed in yellow gold ‘flames’. The clock is powered by a PF 670 movement with a power reserve lasting eight days. It has a key to set the time and wind the movement. The dragon automaton turns in a one-hour circuit as the pearl of wisdom ‘escapes’ its claws six times – each one is announced by the chiming of the gong.
