Inspired by lucky charm medallions, Messika’s new ‘Lucky Move Color’ range appears in a radiant avatar set with semi-precious and organic stones. “For this decidedly playful collection designed to bring good luck, adding colour seemed like an obvious choice,” says Valérie Messika, Founder & Creative Director.
The brand’s iconic Move collection inspired her to design a brighter iteration adorned with coloured stones. The Lucky Move Color talismans draw upon Messika’s signature Move design – each gem is surrounded by gold and inset with a trio of moving diamonds.
The new designs are the first assortment from the atelier that does not use purely diamonds. These colour-block talismans in nine variations are set with onyx, lapis lazuli, malachite, pink, white, and grey mother-of-peal, turquoise, carnelian, and ziricote, with each stone and medallion signifying a mantra – the malachite medallion is a reminder to be authentic, while the black onyx embodies strength, and the turquoise is all about freedom.
“I have replaced the gold with an ornamental stone, but it is not faceted like a diamond. Each shade is based on my favourite colours and the energy they give off,” she explains. Valérie leaned towards rougher and marbled stones, sometimes with unique markings and irregularities, as opposed to her usual choice of pristine diamonds. The exotic wood, ziricote, used in the collection is native to Central America and has a unique graphic marbling, recognizable by its irregular and graphic black veins that contrast against its brown background.
“I immersed myself in the history and story behind these coloured stones, and I found myself fascinated by each of their imperfections, which made them more special to me,” she adds. The gems give a more casual and delicate sensibility to the range, allowing the pieces to be worn as an everyday piece. The Lucky Move Color necklaces, with a halo of diamonds, can be worn alone or layered with other neck pieces, as the unique design allows the medallion to rotate freely on its axis.
The Lucky Move Color collection is available exclusively in the Middle-East from mid-March to mid-April 2020, and then available in all Messika boutiques, globally.
