Colours, class, and causes at this year’s Oscars
THE SARTORIAL SUPPORT FOR TIME’S UP’S FIGHT AGAINST SEXUAL HARASSMENT WITHIN THE FILM INDUSTRY CONTINUED ALL THE WAY TO THE OSCARS. Stepping away from the Golden Globe’s all-black, almost solemn fashion ensembles, the Oscar’s red carpet came alive with celebrities wearing ‘a festive array of colours’, supposedly to represent this important campaign for ‘women everywhere’.
From vibrant, bold gowns to ethereal dresses, celebrities carefully picked their red carpet looks to not only look phenomenal, but also to convey social and political messages in support of the #MeToo and Time’s Up’s campaigns, and many still opted to wear the Time’s Up pins.

English actress Emily Blunt was all dreamy in a powder blue Schiaparelli Spring 2018 Couture gown. The Mary Poppins Returns actress paired her look with equally exquisite Chopard High Jewelry Collection earrings featuring 30.96ct pear-shaped aquamarines. According to her stylist, Jessica Paster, they wanted something whimsical with an edge for Blunt, preferably something that would complement the actress’ blue eyes. And this look simply nailed it.
Red, blue, and metallic were obviously among the favourite hues at the event, with Nicole Kidman, Isla Fisher, and Lupita Nyong’o wearing the hot shades both on the Oscars red carpet and at the after parties.
Not one to be afraid of bold structures and vibrant colours, Kidman who was a presenter wore a sculptural midnight blue Armani Privé gown, which she paired with Harry Winston high jewellery and silver Louboutins. At the 2018 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, actress Isla Fisher was the epitome of old Hollywood glamour in her
1940’s-inspired waves and sexy Alex Perry gown. She capped her look with Irene Neuwirth diamond and turquoise jewellery and an Atelier Swarovski Marina silk clutch. Meanwhile, Jennifer Garner looked stunning in a cobalt blue Atelier Versace gown. The Alias star added more drama to the look with Piaget’s Sunny Side of Life drop earrings featuring two cushion-cut sapphires set with diamonds.

Stars had Bulgari High Jewellery to thank for their unmistakable brilliance on the Oscars red carpet. The Time’s Up campaign is more significant to Ashley Judd, being one of the first women to come forward to accuse former American film producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment. The actress walked the Oscars red carpet with Mira Sorvino, also a Weinstein accuser, wearing a vibrant purple gown, which she accessorised with Bulgari High Jewellery diamond earrings, and Bulgari vintage diamond necklace and bracelet.
Singer Zendaya Coleman also opted for Bulgari vintage diamonds to complement her goddess-inspired Giambattista Valli Couture chiffon gown. Meanwhile, both Olympian Lindsay Vonn and model Samara Weaving went for coloured gemstones to cap their looks. Weaving paired her Schiaparelli Couture Grecian-inspired gown with Bulgari High Jewellery earrings and ring with rubellite and diamonds; while Vonn donned a dramatic Christiano Siriano Pre-Fall 2018 sparkly black gown, which she paired with Bulgari diamond and ruby High Jewellery necklace from 1969, and earrings from 1955.

White, sheath, and romantic gowns were also a big hit on the red carpet this year, almost giving off sentimental bridal vibes. Margot Robbie, recently unveiled as new Chanel ambassador, wore a custom Chanel Haute Couture gown. The Best Actress nominee for her movie I, Tonya capped the look with a Maud ring and Comète and Coco Crush earrings, also from Chanel.

Another crowd favourite this year, Big Little Lies star Laura Dern stepped out in a divine Calvin Klein By Appointment white gown. The actress donned a classic wavy hairstyle, and finished her look with pieces from the Atelier Swarovski Fine Jewellery collection.

Jane Fonda proved she still has it. The 80-year-old actress stunned on the red carpet in a white Balmain structured gown, studded with pearls. Ms Fonda opted for Chopard High Jewelry Collection earrings and a ring from the L’Heure Du Diamant Collection to cap her look. Another accessory that stood out was her Time’s Up pin, which the veteran actress wore proudly.
