Now managed by the fourth-generation Staurino brothers, Stefano and Davide, the family-run atelier operates boutiques across Europe, the US, Middle East and Asia. Fortunate enough to be able to tap into more than a hundred years of research, design and techniques, the brothers are grateful for the brand’s heritage. “Today, it guides and helps us to constantly innovate without forgetting our roots,” shares the Staurino brothers. “This legacy of tradition and innovation has become our motto.”

Tell us how your great grandfather, Natale Staurino, started the brand in 1870?

At the end of 1800s Natale Staurino, a descendant of Vicenzo Morosetti, opened his first jewellery store and began selling gold and hand-crafted jewellery from his small workshop. These were the first pieces of jewellery of the Staurino Family.

How do you manage to evolve, yet remain true to the brand’s heritage?
Our design is deeply rooted in our past and projects into the future through continuous research and applications of new technology. We continue to seek out technical innovations that make our ideas visible, adding value and meaning to our jewellery.

Between the two of you, who handles the creative and who handles the business aspects of the brand?

One of our strong points as a team is that we are both involved in the creative and business aspects. This gives us the opportunity to face every circumstance (either design or business challenges) with a different view, depending on our personal experience and artistic temperament.

Do you both design jewellery? Where do you usually get your design inspirations?

Yes, we do. (Davide is more involved in the Middle East and Asia Pacific markets, while Stefano is more involved in the American markets) Again, this is one of our strengths. As we both give our contribution to the designs, we get our inspirations from different cultures. It is very difficult to say where an inspiration comes from. Sometimes it could be from something real; for example, an element you see in nature or architecture. But often it is from something more indefinite. This is the result of many small inspirations that connect one to another like a puzzle, before an initial idea comes to mind.

How would you describe Staurino’s signature pieces?

We were born jewellers who specialise in the unusual and one-of-a-kind pieces. Our collections are really wide and varied. On one hand we have our Couture collection, which has one-of-a-kind pieces. On the other we have diverse Pret-a-Porter collections such as the Magic Snake collection and the Moresca collection, where diamonds always play a central role and where motion of the piece is an essential and key design element.

Please describe the woman who embodies the Staurino jewellery.
Femininity is our muse. In our mind, jewellery should be like an elegant pair of women’s shoes highly fashionable, yet comfortable. That’s why we spend long hours studying the motion of our pieces, their flexibility, and adapting that fit to correctly flow with the body. Jewellery should be a natural extension of the body, which should underline beauty and not cover it. In a world that keeps changing faster, we need to keep moving and stay at the forefront by reinventing ourselves continuously.
